Flock your photos to Flickr

I’ve been meaning to tell you about Flock, Flock is a relatively new browser on the huge list of available browsers out there; it is based on the same code that powers Firefox. Although I think Flock is a great browser, I prefer Firefox for my day to day web activity. In Flock I use the upload tool the most out of all the Flock features, in fact it is the only thing I’ll tell you about today.

Flickr has an uploader tool, but I don’t like it and it seems to fail whenever I try to use it. There are also other tools available, like juploadr (which I like), but out of all the tools I’ve tried, I like the uploader included with Flock the best. It is simple enough, but has a good set of features.

I can add as many pictures as I need at one time. When you add a batch of new files It takes some time to check each one to make sure the file is a valid picture, then the upload speed depends on your connection to the internet, but the uploader is very reliable. Should you loose internet connectivity or accidentally close Flock the photo uploader will usually allow you to pick up where it left off.

This picture shows you can drag and drop or browse to add more pictures.

When uploading with the Flock photo uploader, you can edit the tags for the entire batch, and/or the tags for each photo. This is a handy feature that allows you to take an entire set and give it some generic tags, then drill down into each photo, or a selected subset and add supplementary tags. Think of this example: “travel, mexico, trip” for all the photos in a batch or album, and “toys, figurines, toysoldier” specifically for the photo I have selected in the screenshot below.

this picture shows that you can add tags to each photo, and maintain the batch tags as well. The privacy options are also clearly visible.

After you’ve given your batch, and photos the tags you want, you apply security options the options to the whole batch, a small selected subset or an individual photo.

The one thing I wish I could do is to upload a number of albums all at once. I haven’t found one tool out there that will do this reliably and consistently. I thought it would be simple enough. All I would like in that arena is that I be able to add any number of photos to one or more, new or existing albums in one pass. Do you know of a tool that does this? consistently? Bonus points if it can schedule the uploads in advance. To get around this limitation for now, I select the photos I want split into other albums and I give them a unique tag. I can then use the tag and the Flickr online organize tool to create a set with those photos only.
