As a sysadmin, finding text in a file is something that I have to do almost everyday. I thought I’d share with you how easy it is to find something in a text file. This also works in a number of other “pseudo text” files, like Word, or other proprietary types, just keep in mind it might not always work. The details of when and how this works is beyond this little post so Google for more info if you want.

I’ve had this question, it has been bugging me for some time now. If someone was to give you a brand new, state of the art computer. What would you do with it?
Say you’re between 4th grade and 12th grade, how would you use such computer? Why should you get it vs the next guy?
I love my new Mac. There is no doubt about it. Despite the great design and the excellent function the computer provides, there are a few things that annoy me. Some are okay because I know I’m simply used to the “windows” way. However, some of the issues are just about the Apple way.
Take for example this one, when you are doing *anything* on a mac, and you “tab” around, it never works. You can’t tab from one button to another. Like if you get a pop up that is to confirm an action, where you have “yes” “no” “later” for example. You can’t tab through each of the options and then press the spacebar, as you can do in Windows and Linux. You must use your mouse! Anyone think this is great? I don’t. I use Quicken 07 to manage my money and it is awesome. The one thing that I hate about it is the stupid registration nagging screen. Every time you try to do anything, it wants to register and I’m sick of it. I had to find a way to get rid of that. It does it when you start up, when you want to update your transactions, etcetera.
To stop the registration from coming up, press and hold the Control and Shift buttons then click on update transactions. This should pop up a message that registration will not come up anymore.
