We went to The Counter the other day, there is a new location in Irvine. If you’ve never heard of it, I recommend you give it a try. Their thing is “Custom Built Burgers”, They are the best non-fast food burgers I’ve ever had. I think this is largely in part because you can put whatever you want in them. Everyone is bound to have different taste preferences so it fits everyone. If you don’t like onions, don’t get them! Maybe you like pickles olives and bluecheese with a one pounder all beef patty. Who knows? you have so many combinations to choose from. The burgers in this picture and the ones in flickr are the 1/3lb size. They also have 2/3 and 1 pound. I can’t imagine eating 1lb burger. They have a small notice in their menu… the weigh of the burger is *after* cooking so you truly get 1 pound of meat.
You can always make a classic burger if you want, beef, tomato, lettuce and american cheese. Or you can mix it up with other ingredients like red bell peppers, crumbled feta cheese, olives, sprouts, grilled onion, mushrooms, avocado, etc. If you don’t like beef then they have other meat choices as well, like chicken.
I will probably make my way over to The Counter again at least a few times in the next year. Its one of those places that you’ll want to go back again and again, just to try a different combination each time. Cheers.
As I have posted over the past couple of days, I got a chance to make two small trips. The first one was to San Francisco. Fortunately I got to see my sister and hang out with my girlfriend, but the main purpose of the trip was to attend Prosper Days 2008. I had a blast. Here are the picture highlights from the trip, I am still debating whether to post pictures from the Prosper Days event. I think some people might be sensitive and I rather not upset anyone. With that, here are some pictures I got around town.
I’m killing some time at the airport. Our flight was supposed to leave at 6:55, then they moved it to 7:30, not it says 8:44. All because ofa little drizzle. Sigh.
Well, I dug up this picture from my recent photo sprees, and I thought I’d share it with you.
We got into town last night, just fine. A little late because of the rain, but it wasn’t too bad. I have to say though, I am not impressed with Virgin America. Our flight had no entertainment system, and the seats are not any more comfortable than any of the other airlines I’ve flown in the past, I’ll tell you more about that later.
But in any case… now, I’m sitting at Cafe Royale, its a bar near my sister’s place. It is very eclectic I guess, they serve wine, and beer; they have a small art gallery and today they had Jazz for a while. They also have free wi-fi so that’s the main reason why I’m here.
Prosper Days starts tomorrow and its only 0.6 miles away from my sister’s place so that’s great. The only thing is that the weather has been kind of gloomy so far; hopefully it won’t rain when we head out in the morning. Registration starts at 7 and the sessions start at 9:00.
I have already had a blast today. My sister, girlfriend and I went to Golden Gate Park today. We walked by the De Young museum and took a tour of the Japanese Tea Garden. Then we walked around the Botanical Garden and that was very interesting as well.
The food so far has been great, We had Thai for dinner last night at Osha Thai Noodle. This morning we had breakfast at the Crepe House, and then dinner at Hotei Noodles. The girls are anxious to go back to the house so I will wrap it up for now. I’ll try to post some more tomorrow. Peace out.
We decided to make spring rolls for dinner on Friday. They turned out great. We do these like once a month. It is fun to make them, they are very tasty. If you’re watching your diet, these are also very healthy for you due to their flexibility in ingredients. I think the best part about it is that this whole dinner cost us about $6.00 in ingredients by the time we finished I was stuffed. Check out the pictures.

Starting with the lettuce at the top and moving clockwise, we have: lettuce, mint, tofu, spring rolls noodles (I don’t know what they’re actually called), tofu, cucumber, green onions, shrimp, pork and cilantro.

Take a large bowl, fill it with warm water (warmer than cooler), and dip your rice paper so it gets wet all over. Don’t soak it in there, just dip it so its completely wet and bring it back to your plate.

Start loading up the ingredients. If you divide the paper in thirds, you should keep the ingredients in between the first and second sections closest to you. Fill in with whatever ingredients you want. Continue Reading “Rolling your own” »
So this Saturday we went to see Wicked. Instead of going out to dinner in some fancy place in LA, we decided to make food at home. It was great, everyone made something. I took a trip to Pearson’s Port and got some huge shrimp that they have in stock right now. It is live shrimp so its super fresh. The Crab Lady will cut their heads off for you. Take a look at this picture I took at her shop.
