Triple Tuesday, a couple days late

Sorry guys, I was sick on Tuesday. I had just enough energy and will to bring you a rant about staying home and I missed the triple Tuesday link post.

Here are 3 new sites worth checking out.

Nophonetrees.com - This site seems promising, it is a service and I’ve only used it once with really good success. The premise is that you shouldn’t be going through endless menus when calling someone. Press 1 for this, press 3 for that, please hold, all of our representatives are currently busy; you know the drill. This site takes your phone number, goes through all the prompts and connects your call when the call is about to reach a live person. Great stuff, they also promise not to give your phone to anyone, not even your mom “even if she bakes us milk and cookies and asks us very nicely.”

While I was sick the other day, I used WebMD to check out my symptoms and see what was going on with me. I’ve used it in the past to find out more about different ailments and diseases. Its a great resource and if you haven’t used it before, its time to check it out and add it to your favorites. This is one of the most, if not the most complete medical reference available online and its free. To use it type up your symptoms on the search bar and see what it finds for you.

The last link I have to share for you today is del.icio.us. This is the best bookmarking site out there. It has grown in popularity  tremendously over the past couple of years. It easily integrates into your browser to capture your bookmarks and favorites. Then you can share them with friends, other people or simply keep them to yourself. The greatest thing about it for me is the ability to easily share links with my friends and family. Another great benefit of using it is that I have my bookmarks available no matter where I go; if I’m online, I have access to them. If you’re already on del.icio.us, check out my profile and share some links.

Triple Tuesday

So I will try to give you three new sites each Tuesday, here you have the first three.

After you’re done posting that ad to sell your old clunker in Craigslist, you can take a quick break and check out Best of Craigslist. What I really like about this site is the creative writing that people come up with. I think the anonymity allows for people to really spill out their guts. If you have a few minutes to kill, give it a visit. Some of my latest favorites: To the drunk Hottie that fell off my motorcycle, Looking for a dead deer and 20 things I gotta tell my boss.

If you are busy stumbling, or blogging, or actually getting stuff done and can’t do any more surfing but you still want more stuff to look at, then fire off Flickrspy on your second monitor. It is kind of like watching a global slideshow from the most recent pictures in Flickr. Flickrspy got its own domain now, but I still like the old version better.

Pick the brain. To me a sophisticated life-hacking site, it has articles ranging from using  procrastination to your advantage, to essays about the nature of some of our social problems; this site is a heavy hitter. Its a multi-author blog that keeps me coming back day after day to read their latest. I may not always agree, but they make their point concisely and eloquently.

2008 is here, and here are my resolutions.

David asked the other day, “so what are your resolutions for 2008?” I promptly, surely and assertively said: “I don’t have any, I think they are bullshit and most of the time they go by the wayside two to three weeks into the year”

Then I thought about it some more, and came to the conclusion that simply trying to be better in every sense of the word “being” is my resolution. Striving to become a better person, more compassionate, more thoughtful, more productive, more understanding, is to be my resolution. Not only for 2008 but for the rest of my life.

It is easy to tell myself this and not do it, but by posting it here and announcing it so the world can see, I hope to gain some accountability.

GTD™ is big right now, and getting things done is big for a reason. It works. I’ve put it to the test for the past couple of months. I am getting stuff done. I think it can be applicable to all aspects of our lives. I believe in it quite a bit, so much so that I gave 12 copies of the book away this past Christmas.

To give back, I am about to announce a giveaway. On January 21st, I will post the announcement here for everyone to see. I think its Huge.

To understand more I will read more, I have always been a big fan of books and reading in general. I have made my current reading list available in case you want to chat about the books I will read.

Expect to see more photography, more jumping around, more ideas, more traveling. I invite you to hold me to what I’ve said here, I dare you. I invite you to put down your own goals in paper, write them down somewhere and ask someone to hold you accountable for them.

I spent a lot of time reading the web last year. I found tons of sites that made it to my daily or weekly reading. Today I would like to highlight a few of my favorites.

These do not fit on any one particular category, check them out for yourself and let me know what you think.

In step with my buddy Steve from Kehlet.cx, I must point you to CodingHorror. This became one of my preferred sites. Jeff’s commentary has an approach –if I may quote Steve– of “enough with the bullshit already.” Content is delivered by using a simple uncluttered design and actually providing suggestions on how to improve the topics he analyzes. Oh yeah and its logo is cool. Like my impression of it?

In the financial arena, there were lots of sites I kept up with regularly. Mostly because their advice and articles are in line with very basic, oft forgotten common sense. 31 Days to fix your finances by The Simple Dollar captured my attention and I’ve been a daily reader ever since. The ever growing The Digerati Life also kept me coming back for more on a daily basis and is sure to stay in my daily RSS reads. Other sites worth mentioning if you are looking for sound financial advice are: Millionaire Mommy Next Door, the author was actually featured on TV recently; Money $mart Life is good as well.

Late in 07, thanks to David and Steve, I found about HDR and quickly became a big fan of Stuck in Customs, one of my favorite photography sites ever. Daily Dose of Imagery is another awesome photography site.

On the personal end of the spectrum, I found Banana Sauce, she’s funny and shares a lot of entertaining personal moments. Chris seems to finally have settled on a theme, which reminds me, I gotta figure something out for mine.

And lastly, on the biggest time wasters of all time, I recommend of course, stumbleupon, Stumbleupon brings Websurfing to a new level and if you give it an honest chance, is guaranteed to find you some of the best sites you’ve ever seen.

What are some of your favorite websites? And to the rest of my buddies… Bring your sites back or update them! Remember, I’ll host it if you keep it updated.
